Summary

In 1988 a Mesolithic flaked flint axehead was recovered in this area. A broken potentially Mesolithic axehead or adze was found at this location in 2009, although this may have been in amongst material brought in from elsewhere. There have also been reports that there was a market in this area, from which post medieval coins, lead weights and thimbles have been recovered.

Found on surface of cultivated field to east of pond:
1 Mesolithic chipped flint axehead.
Identified by J. J. Wymer (NAU), 1 September 1989. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 5 June 2014.

Informant states that there was a market in this area; coins of William and Mary, and Victorian coins, lead weight and thimbles etc have been found.
E. B. Green (NCM), 1 September 1989.

September-October 2009. Stray Find.
1 Mesolithic broken flint axe/adze.
Identified by P. Robins (NCM). See description in file.
A. Rogerson, (NLA), 26 November 2009. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 5 June 2014.

The Mesolithic broken flint axe/adze listed above was brought in for identification a second time in 2019 [2]. Its bag records that it was found at [3] and potentially "...imported with hardcore to make-up the farmyard". It should also be noted that this could well be the same object as a broken "Mesolithic/Neolithic flint pick" recorded as having been found close to this location in around 1990 (see NHER 37232, originally recorded as NHER 28435).
See PAS record NMS-4B328E.
P. Watkins (HES), 25 March 2019.
