Summary

An early 18th-century house, which may be built around an earlier core. Fragments of medieval masonry were found in the garden.

November 1951. Listed, Grade II*.
"18th-century house. Flint with red brick dressings. Steep black-glazed pantile roof with brick coping to gable ends. Brick parapet, dentilled cornice and quoins; two storeys. Five bays, centre advanced. Sashes with glazing bars, flat rubbed brick arches with keyblocks...Central doorway with brick cornice, panelled door and reveals."

September 1990. Building Survey.
Grand house dating externally to the early 18th century.
Former external doorway of about 1620 revealed inside adjacent Quay Cottage suggests an older core, or reused materials.
Medieval stonework and slag was dug up in the garden in 1990.

The medieval stonework found during work for a conservatory now lies within a rockery at the front of the house. This material was briefly examined by [1] in 2021. The most complete example was a jamb piece in a fine-grained Barnack-type limestone with clawed tooling.
