Full Description
June 1972. Listed, Grade II.
Statue, 1927, by Sir Edwin Lutyens. Bronze and stone.
Bronze angel on top of tall stone plinth bearing the names of those who died in the Boer War.
Information from (S1).
Press cutting (S2) in file and (S3) rightly disagree with the date and architect above. (S2) gives a date of 1905, (S3) 1903. (S3) gives the architect as George and Fairfax Wade. The confusion seems to be caused by the World War One memorial of 1927 by Lutyens which is at the top of the Market Place in front of City Hall.
E. Rose and P. Aldridge (NLA), 27 March 2007.
