No 30 St Benedict's Street.

1970s or 1980s. Building Survey.
Examined as part of Norwich Survey.
Only a suggestion of a 17th-century block with a jettied first floor. The whole building and its associated back range has been gutted, boxed and stuccoed. At the rear of the block are remains of other houses in which some moulded timbers of c. 1525 have been reused.
Information from record form (S1).
P. Watkins (HES), 30 November 2017.

This building is amongst those listed in thesis (S2), which considers the 13th- to 17th-century buildings of Norwich. It is described as a much altered building, the street range of which may have a 17th-century core, although there was little dating evidence exposed. Although a two-storey building, it is described as having a three-storeyed 20th-century façade. It is unclear whether this represents a simple error or evidence that the rest of the description actually relates to No 32 next door (which is three storey).
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 30 November 2017 and 16 March 2021.
