Map

Beneath outhouse to north of dwelling, against road. House and outhouse stated to date from 1860; appearance tends to confirm this.
Subsidence in January 1996 revealed brick domed structure according to source [1] who suggested it was an icehouse.
Site visited by E.Rose (NLA) 15 January but subsidence already backfilled.
Owner of house did not accept identification as icehouse, saying that bores had shown the subsidence to be 13m deep; he had only seen some brickwork visible in one side at the top; possibly an old well or cesspit exposed by subsidence of what might have been a mine shaft.
E. Rose (NLA), 19 January 1996.
