Summary

An evaluation of a site owned jointly by Ben Burgess & Co, John Thursby and Norwich City Council has demonstrated that deposits of Late Saxon or early medieval date survive along the eastern edge of King Street, below a 1.20m depth of modern building rubble. Elsewhere on the site the remains of the 19th century ironworks and cottages seal great depths of post medieval garden soils, beneath which there appears to be a major accumulation of earlier material.
