Summary

In 1925 a burnt mound or hearth with associated Iron Age pot boilers and pottery was found here. Additionally, a number of Roman pottery sherds and coins were retrieved from the same site. The area has now been destroyed by gravel extraction.

January 1925. Cooking place found on Barrow Hill, approximately 130-150 OD. Subsequently destroyed by gravel extraction.
Pottery - some decorated from hearths (found by [1]), pot boilers, charcoal.
Some late Iron Age A1. Black and reddish pottery - rough and fine ware. Held by Thetford Museum.
(W.G. Clarke (MSS) notes that the 'pottery [is] similar to that which I found on Barnham Common').
Fragment of clay loomweight 7.3cm (2 1/8inch) wide.
Everted black rim - 5mm thick, gritty ware, diagonal slashings (IAA 1). NCM hold two sherds found in 1931.
AC site 16 (i) 6.5mm thick - handmade, burnished exterior - plain hard gritty ware (prob IAA 2).

Some ware with flat topped rim bevelled inward. High shoulders - finger tipping on rims and finger nail on shoulder - some rims undercut - incised parallel lines and criss-cross incisions for decoration.
Small pot from this site in Thetford Museum, formerly held by member of the public [1]. Called Late Bronze Age in error, see (S5).
