Summary

In 1963 foundation digging unearthed several medieval pottery sherds and a spindle whorl. This process located numerous cellars and cut into the castle bank. In 1998 further excavations recorded the presence of several pits and postholes with Late Saxon, medieval and post medieval pottery and finds. These either indicated pre-castle habitation and/or encroachment on the castle fee.
