Pre 1909. Stray Find.
In December 1909 a Palaeolithic implement that had been found at Brancaster was exhibited by Mr B. Lowerison at a meeting of the Prehistoric Society of East Anglia. It had been found in a ploughed field that was "part sand, part clay". It is recorded in (S1) that the object was "…of the ordinary pointed type of Palaeolith, thin, 3 1/2 inches [8.9cm] long and 2 inches [5.1cm] wide at the broadest point. The object is clearly too small to have been a handaxe and it was apparently considered to be similar to "the ordinary type of Solutrean" by Dr A. Sturge. This would suggest it was potentially an Upper Palaeolithic leaf-shaped point.

This object is also noted on (S2) and in (S3), (S4) and (S5), although in all cases only a reference to (S1) is given.
R. Rickett (NAU), 28 August 1990. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 13 December 2013.
