Summary

Amateur excavations before 1970 recovered evidence of settlement and round houses, although there has been some confusion over the exact location of this site. Further finds of Roman pottery sherds have led to the conclusion that the settlement is of Roman date.

Source Wisbech Museum records quoted in (S1).

1976. Site visited by Ordnance Survey. Found to be under grass and no trace of excavations. Almost certainly occupation was Roman. During visit a sherd of coarse ware was found at TF 4858 0227.
NB. Site in Cambridgeshire until 1990 and part of the area may still be over county boundary.

Information from NAR records.
Compiled by M. Leah 4 March 1991.

Source states he believes the first part of this entry is wrongly plotted, referring to site 34743. Wisbech Museum having misunderstood which end of Thurlands Drove was involved. However the Ordnance Survey finds are clearly from this site. [1]
