Summary

In 1991 a Neolithic flaked flint axehead was found by chance at this location. Subsequent metal-detecting between 1996 and 2018 recovered; Roman and medieval pottery sherds; undated copper alloy casting waste; Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins; post-medieval jettons and tokens and a number of other, Roman to post-medieval metal objects. These metal finds include a Roman brooch and skirted terret; a Roman to post-medieval lead weight; a Late Saxon disc brooch; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval cauldron leg, knife end cap, harness pendant fragment, binding ring or collar and copper alloy seal matrix and a medieval/post-medieval purse fragment and coin weight.

Complete chipped axe in flint patinated white with some iron staining in fresh condition. Length 229mm, width 78mm, thickness 56mm. Photographed (S1).

Pottery: Roman grey ware, one jar rim and two body sherds. Medieval unglazed two jar or bowl rims. One body sherd Glazed Grimston.
Medieval binding ring or collar.
Medieval cauldron leg.
Medieval attachment bar fragment for harness pendant (rectangular loop, broken rivet and hole at end of bar).
Medieval belt fitting, bar mount with pendant loop. Compare with (S2).
Medieval end cap from knife, transverse grooves, traces of iron tang.
Early post medieval double looped buckle.
Two Roman coins.
One post medieval coin, one post medieval token.

Rather worn convex disc brooch with Borre derived ornament. Single transverse pin lug (with slight iron staining) and catchplate on reverse. Mid 10th century. To be photographed.
