Full Description
1947. Mound of pot boilers.
Information from [1].
Noted on (S1).
R. R. Clarke (NCM).
March 2024. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
The possible prehistoric burnt mound described above was not identified on the consulted sources. It was also not possible to identify two mounds thought to be associated with this site and seen on an aerial photograph (S2; information from Historic England research record S3). This is despite viewing the same photograph. It is not in fact clear from the original records whether there was an actual earthwork associated with the potboilers, or whether it was identified as a levelled potboiler mound, ie the term ‘mound’ refers to the site type, not the form of evidence.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 6 March 2024.
