Summary

Metal detecting and fieldwalking in this area during 1991-92 recovered various objects. Finds included a prehistoric retouched flake, Roman and medieval pottery sherds, fragments of lava - possibly from either quern or mill stones of medieval/post medieval date and coins of Elizabeth I and James I.

1991. Fieldwalking and metal detecting.
Flint flake with retouch.
Roman, medieval pottery, latter mostly late medieval transitional ware.
Almost complete 15th century purse bar, inscribed and inlaid with niello; swivel in place. Found at grid reference. (S1).
Two medieval buckles.
Possible medieval/post medieval Mayen lava fragment.
Medieval belt fitting.
Possible medieval large lead weight.
15th/16th century book clasp.
Post medieval dark green glass bottle top.
Post medieval metalwork: two buckles, two thimbles, two early post medieval bronze rings, lead disc, 18th century decorated large flat button, 17th/18th century gilt bronze domed decorated stud, bronze harness/belt mount.
Pewter harness boss.
Elizabeth I halfpenny 1567 m.m. coronet (Seaby 2569).
James I penny 1607-1609 m.m. coronet (North 2106).

Lots of medieval pottery, mostly late medieval transitional ware.
Mayen lava fragment.
Medieval bronze purse loop. Bronze 'acorn' terminal.
14th century strap end with elaborate trefoil terminal (lovely).
Late medieval/16th century bronze chafing dish handle with attachment stud.
Three early post medieval buckles (one with scrolls etc and laquered frame).
Early post medieval bell fragment.

Nuremberg jetton Krauwinkel II Mitchener 1535.
James I Royal Farthing token - Lennox 'round' 1614-25.
