Summary

Metal detecting here during 1991 recovered three medieval strap fittings, two of which were made of silver.

December 1991. Metal detecting finds.
Medieval copper alloy strap end, front plate, with cast stylised animal-head terminal; decorated with rocker-arm ornament.
Medieval circular silver belt-boss, scalloped edge, circle of cast annulets within plain bands and central pierced hole; 3 shanks with circular roves on reverse.
Medieval 15th century silver openwork strap end, identical back and front. Ridged outer frame, tongue-shaped. Within this are 4 layers. Two outermost, made of strips of silver, have (on each side) a pelta (at the top) and a circle below. The pelta contains one circle, and has 2 rivets in the spiral ends. The circular frame below contains 3 smaller circles. Within these openwork front and back plates are two very thin sheets which are punched with 4 holes within the small circles, and cut to open trefoils between the circles. Similar techniques used on buckle-plates.
