Summary

A probable post medieval tree ring is recorded at this location and is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs. Visualised lidar data from a survey flown in 2017 shows the area as being very disturbed, but the earthwork appears to at least partially survive. It is one of several tree rings recorded within Vicarage Park (NHER 33465). It was originally interpreted as a possible Bronze Age ring barrow, but this is unlikely.

The site of a Bronze Age ring barrow or pond described above is visible as the earthwork of a circular bank on 1940s aerial photographs (S2). Visualised lidar data from a survey flown in 2017 (S3) shows the area as being very disturbed, but the earthwork appears to at least partially survive. As suggested above, it is unlikely to be a ring barrow, but is more probably one of several post medieval tree rings associated with Vicarage Park (NHER 33465). It is depicted on historical Ordnance Survey maps, such as the 1st edition 6 inch (S4), on which it appears to be marked as both a tree clump and possibly a pond.
