Summary

Prehistoric worked flints; Roman and medieval/post-medieval pottery sherds and Roman flue tile fragments were found as stray finds in the 1980s and in 2016. Subsequent fieldwalking and metal-detecting between 1992 and 2010 recovered Roman, Late Saxon, medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins; medieval and post-medieval jettons; post-medieval tokens; and undated, Roman, Early Saxon and medieval to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include undated metal-working debris; Roman brooches; an Early Saxon brooch; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval silver gilt finger ring, box mount, purse frame and lead weight; a medieval/post-medieval copper alloy vessel fragment and sword chape and a post-medieval belt or harness mount, spur fragment and the arm from a pair of dividers.

Found by [3] at TF 6570 1920:
2 Roman hypocaust tile fragments.
Roman pottery sherds, including 1 Samian bowl sherd and coarse ware sherds.

1983. Stray Find.
Various prehistoric worked flints recovered from several fields in Bawsey by [4]. Although the majority were said to come from Galley Hill (NHER 19537), at least some were apparently from this field (Mintlyn Church Field) and another to the south (NHER 28923). Mintlyn Farm Field Survey (south of Mintlyn Church):
Much slag apparent, including Context 2 [1] - a dense concentration of slag with few Roman and medieval sherds, continuing into wood.
