Full Description
May-August 1992. Fieldwalking and Metal-Detecting Survey and Watching Brief.
Fieldwork carried out along route of Yelverton to East Carleton Gas Pipeline (Survey Blocks 182-191).
Finds recovered during initial survey include:
1 prehistoric flint core, 9 flakes and 'pot boilers'.
4 Roman coins and 1 pottery sherd.
2 medieval pottery sherds, 15 brick/tile fragments (including 1 floor tile), glass and 1 copper alloy seal matrix (bearing an inscribed with a cockerel and a whimsical legend "CROV ME DAT").
1 ?medieval copper alloy vessel foot.
5 post-medieval pottery sherds and 39 brick/tile fragments.
Undatable smithing slag.
Several undated features were identified during the subsequent Watching Brief undertaken during topsoil stripping and excavation of pipe trench. These included a ditch and two feature of a more uncertain nature.

It should be noted that some of the finds listed above are only recorded in the site archive. There are also minor discrepancies between the information given in (S1) and that which was initially supplied following the completion of the fieldwork.
The finds have been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (bulk finds - NWHCM : 1995.75; seal matrix - NWHCM : 1993.24).
