Map

September 1992. Metal detecting. Context 1. [1].
Fragment of marble tablet, 31 by 19 by 9cm, broken corner forming a triangular shape. Ovolo moulded surround on two sides, the third broken across the face of the tablet. Long side and rear of tablet tooled, and therefore original ends and not meant to be seen, but short side is partly polished and partly broken off from a larger piece of marble, indicating monument continued in this direction.
Face of tablet has copper alloy nail and a hole for another, with rocker-arm tooling indicating that some sort of swag, armorial device or the like was attached.
Almost certainly from a funerary monument. Date is after 1600 and before about 1850, probably about 1700
