Summary

Numerous animal bones were found during the excavation of building foundations in 1951. The work was being carried out in part of the Market Place. The type of animal is not specified.

January 1951. 3 King Street. Foundations of Marks and Spencer dug on site which was part of Market Place until about 1650, before which no building was allowed east of King Street.
4.3m (14 feet) of made up ground above sand.
Many animal bones found.
