Summary

A series of possible enclosures/ponds are visible on aerial photographs of this area that were taken during 1988. An earthwork survey here in 1993 recorded two dry ponds, a causeway, possible house platforms and drainage ditches. The causeway may relate to the post medieval road line.

17 February 1993. Ponds and causeway.
Site visited in NLA/RCHM earthwork survey field.
Two ponds (dry), one approximately 5m x 14m x 0.4m deep joined by a leet to a larger, 17m x 40m x 0.6m deep pond on valley floor. The larger one has a now obstructed channel leading to the present watercourse. Possible fishponds.
A causeway exists to the east, heading south on the north side of valley floor, but not noticeable on the floor, then apparent on the south side where it appears amongst a group of irregular platforms, incised by probable drainage ditches. Possibly old road line, platforms may be natural.
