Full Description
1992. Found leaning against wall of old bullockshed.
Massive pear-shaped flint 'anvil' 390mm x 500mm max dimensions, the the latter including a 'nose' 120mm long, 80mm thick.
Underside retains cortex but lumps knocked off to give firm seating.
Edges flaked.
Upper surface has tremendous amount of wear.
Is this prehistoric or is it some sort of more recent item such as an anvil for beating leather on? Metal tools do not seem to have been used on it. It is not a rubbing or smoothing stone as wear indicates beating with wood or perhaps stone.
Identified E. Rose (NLA) 13 May 1993.
