November 1993. Field Observation.
Timber framed house divided into two. 1993 listing describes as mid 17th century with two 19th century shop fronts and central door formerly to upper floor. Upper floor jettied with 18th century sashes. Bell based gables with external east stack. Rear brick wing. Interior of No 2 visited by E. Rose (NLA) 15 November 1993. On ground floor, boxed beam at right angles to facade continues line of south wall of rear wing. Within shop two bridging beams abut onto it, with simple stepped stops - one beam continues north into No 4, the other (with cruder stops) appears to continue south into No 1 adjacent, unless cladding of south wall alone has covered stops. In rear wing, offset to north behind No 4, is a spine beam emerging from partition wall and set into a bridging beam (on east side of modern partition) - the spine beam has ornate stops with a bar and V-moulding. 19th century winding stair. Brief glimpse of upper floor revealed no visible features of note. Stops confirm listing date of mid 17th century but original plan not recovereable at this time.
