Map

5 July 1989. NAU aerial photography.
Rectilinear cropmarks - field system? and possible drove - underlying marks of more recent fields.
D. Edwards (NAU), and M. Flitcroft (NLA).

July 2001. Norfolk NMP.
(Site extended to west).
The ditch features are largely aligned in approximately east to west and north to south directions, and are probably part of the Late Iron Age to Roman system of land division visible to the west. Within the northwest corner of the site are series of smaller rectangular fields or allotments (S1 and S2) which are typical of the Roman period field systems in this area. To the south-east are the faint and partial remains of a sub-circular enclosure or ringditch. The cropmark of this feature is exceedingly ephemeral but is visible under different conditions on the dates photographed (S1 to S3).
There is a large ditch running across the site, is aligned in an approximatete southwest to northeast direction. This is almost certainly a continuation of a large feature on the same alignment in NHER 38289 to the immediate west, and may be considerably later than Roman period.
There is a dog-legged, triple-ditched boundary feature or trackway visible for a short east to west aligned stretch, although curiously there is no discernible trace of it beyond the one narrow field. To the north there is the possible remains of square or goalpost enclosure. There are no discernible features within the interior of the enclosure.
M. Brennand (NMP), 6 July 2001.
