Full Description
11 May 1993. Ordnance Survey air photography.
Apparent rectangular enclosure with two sides much darker than the others, plus a projection to the south. Presumably cannot be a moat in this area (former Acle detached parish) but is at an angle to the field boundaries. Possibly a misleading impression of rectilinearity given by an older river course, a portion of one of which appears to be the southwest. Photocopy in file.
B. Cushion and E. Rose (NLA), 1 June 1994.
December 2005. Norfolk NMP.
A rectangular enclosure has previously been recorded at this location based on soilmarks visible on aerial photographs (S1). However, examination of earlier aerial photographs (S3 and S4) makes this interpretation doubtful. Earthworks visible in the field when it was still pasture relate to drainage ditches and natural channels. No evidence of a rectangular enclosure is visible as earthworks on these aerial photographs.
J. Albone (NMP), 07 December 2005.
