Summary

Nos 3, 3a and 5 form a timber-framed building dating back to the late 16th century. During the 19th century the façade was clad in brick. The original building was one bay deep, and there are a number of features relating to the original timber-framed constructions still visible inside and out.

Listing Description excerpt:
"Two shops and one house in range. Late 16th century with alterations. Timber-framed under brick skin, colourwashed to No 3 and No 3A. Pantile roof. Two storeys. Two 20th-century shop fronts to left (south end, No 3 and No 3A). Two doorways in remainder are 19th century...Gabled roof with three rebuilt ridge stacks. East gable and rear wing 20th century.
Interior - Original building one room deep, the rear studs visible in rear wall of No 3. Wall plate with roll and hollow mouldings continues into No 3A. Chamfered bridging beam with barred tongue stops. Timber frame survives to first floor of No 3A. Jowled principal studs to rear, close studded, arched wall braces. Chamfered tie beams with tongue stops. Continuous clasped purlin roof with lower butt purlins, cambered collars and undiminished principals, the principals cut back and moulded to accommodate claped purlin".
