Summary

A farm complex, including a barn of 18th/19th century date. The barn is curious, as its north west end seems to be a cottage. Either it has been converted, or it was originally built that way.

Map

2 October 1994. Visited.
Farm complex. Against road is a square building of red bricks with horizontal skintlings (and so post c.1780) and dentilled cornice with pantile roof. North-east wall along road appears as normal small barn with central full height doors; but north-west wall is a cottage façade of 3 bays, 2 storeys having a central door and sash windows!

This appears to be genuine and not a folly so one must assume the living quarters are one bay deep and that the house in fact occupies the right hand stead of the barn. Behind this building is a long red brick house or row of cottages, seen only in distance but it appears to have a return at the right hand gable (north-east) suggesting a former timber frame. More probably this is due to the rebuilding of the gable wall, but could do with investigation.
