Full Description
The Manor House, High Street.
February 1952. Listed, Grade II.
Name not historical - 'The Parsonage' in 1741.
Early 17th-century house. Rendered and colourwashed. Black unglazed pantiles. 'L'-plan, six bays, two storeys and attic. Gabled wing at north runs to road, two storeys, attic and cellar; chimneystack removed. Main façade with three small gabled projections, recessed bays between them. Door on central projection; other bays sash windows, some replaced. Rear wall has three bays plus chimney bay. South gable wall with two moulded brick first floor windows and two attic windows with hoodmoulds and pintles. Later rear wing at south. Interior has three tiered roof of staggered purlins; newel attic stair behind northeast chimneystack, enclosed southwest chimneystack. Reset Ionic fire surround; reeded surrounds to sash windows; late 18th-century stair in one of façade projections.
