Summary

Metal detecting in this area during 1995 and 2002 recovered a variety of objects. Finds included a prehistoric flint blade, part of a Neolithic polished axehead, A Bronze Age spearhead fragment, Roman coins, an Early Saxon brooch, a Middle or Late Saxon strap fitting, a medieval purse and a post medieval cloth seal.

February/March 1995. 'Double Field'.
Very delicate medieval knife handle, part of an iron tang, with pieces of shell on either side as 'packing', set within elaborate non ferrous sleeve.
Terminal of silver sheet (or possible bronze sheet), gilt, 10mm by 10mm by 4mm, engraved fleur de lis on each large face, narrowing to tapering silver section 7 to 8mm by 10mm by 4mm with bowed larger faces which carry engraved double leaf motifs. Single leaves on each narrow, side, face. Junction with next section covered by encircling cordon of silver with diagonal slashing. Surviving part of next section suggests it was similar to the last.
