Summary

Metal detecting at this site in 1994-95 recovered a post medieval two-armed seal matrix with a perforation which would allow its suspension from a chain. A merchant's mark and legend are visible on this example.

December 1994/January 1995. Metal detector find.
An early post medieval seal matrix was recovered by a metal detectorist. The seal was dated to the 16th century and has been identified as a bronze, two-armed seal matrix with a pierced hole for a suspension chain located in the shank between the two arms. The smaller matrix has merchant's mark within a pelleted border while the larger has same mark and a legend within a double pelleted border. S'IOan heret. For comparison, see pages 150-53 in (S1).
