Summary

Fieldwalking and metal-detecting in this area during 1995-96 and 2005 recovered a variety of objects. Finds included prehistoric flint flakes and burnt flint, part of a Neolithic polished flint axehead, a Bronze Age chisel, a medieval or post-medieval brooch/buckle. In addition, sherds of Roman, Middle Saxon, medieval and post-medieval pottery have been retrieved from this site. Metal-detecting in 2010 recovered Roman coins and a post-medieval weight.

1995. Fieldwalking finds.
Roman, Middle Saxon, medieval and post-medieval sherds.
Comprise:
Four Ipswich ware sherds.
Lead glazed earthenware rim, stoneware probably Frechen and unglazed ware sherd.
Green glazed Grimston handle fragment and medieval base.
Greywares including two bases, five rims and nine sherds.
Miscellaneous twenty-three sherds (grey, which are Roman to medieval).
Flints.
Two pot boilers and two flakes (one possible knife).

1995-1996. Fieldwalking and metal-detecting.

2 Late Neolithic/Bronze Age flint flake knives, 1 piercer, 2 retouched flakes and 2 flakes.
4 ?prehistoric flint 'pot boilers'.
2 Late Saxon pottery sherds.
1 ?Late Saxon/medieval decorated copper alloy strip (?binding strip).
5 medieval pottery sherds.
1 medieval/post-medieval pottery sherd.
1 post-medieval pottery sherd.
2 undatable lead weights, 1 lead pot mend, 1 unidentified curved copper alloy object and 1 fragment of copper alloy waste.

Roman mortarium rim sherd.
Medieval/post-medieval suspension ring, brooch or buckle.
Two undatable plano-convex lead weights with off-centre perforations. Weights: 17g (0.6oz) and 10.4g (0.37oz).
