Summary

This early 17th century timber framed brick faced house was extended in the 18th to 19th century. The east end of the building was faced in brick in the 18th century and a shop front was added in the late 19th century. The shop front has now been removed.

Early 17th century house extended 18th to 19th century. Timber frame faced in Flemish bond brick with flared headers to east. 'Belgium tile roof' (sic) according to (S1). Two room plan with wide central staircase containing stairs. Large hall to west, parlour to east both with gable stacks. Right hand (east) end faced in brick in 18th century, facade late 19th century with shop front fitting in hall. Catslide at rear. Interior has exposed timber frame, hall having crossbeams with hollow step stops - the joists have similar stops; lozenge mullion four light rear window, 18th century door. Parlour has panelled axial beam and stopped joists, large brick fireplace with chamfered jambs and stopped bressumer; shaped cupboards to each side. Some red paint on studs, 19th century stairs. Chambers display wallposts, tiebeams, wallplate, studs and axial beams with stops. Right hand chamber has 18th century chimney-piece, left hand chamber with chamfered brick fireplace and stopped bressumer. Central chamber with exposed brace to tie. Five bay queen post roof with clasped purlins above collars and wind-bracing; upper collars birdsmouthed to upper purlins; original rafters, later ridge.
