Summary

This is the site of a medieval manor that is described in 16th century documents. In 1977 rescue excavations revealed that a mound on the site was a natural feature and recorded a ditch that contained possible Late Saxon pottery. Other finds from the site included Roman coins, an Early Saxon brooch and girdle hanger, an unidentified Middle Saxon object, a Late Saxon furniture fitting, a medieval spindle whorl and a post medieval bell.

The site of a manor refered to in a terrier of 1553-1554 (S1). This manor preceded Heydon Hall, located 'west of the Hall, in Bartrams'.

1977. Mound destroyed, observed, salvage record made.
Ditch discovered, contained two sherds of possible Thetford type ware, burnt daub, animal bones.
Roman, Late Saxon, medieval pottery and domestic refuse.

1988. Metal detecting.
