December 1999 to January 2000. Metal detecting.
All copper alloy unless stated:
Late Saxon stirrup terminal, now very worn. The reverse is not the usual U-shape, but three sides of a sharply nagled rectangle. Much of one side of this rectangle is missing, as is the closed end of the stirrup terminal. The worn decoration is in the form of an animal head, wtih a large domed cranium at the closed end, two knobby eyes, and an upturned snout at the upper open end. Corroded to a deep purplish brown colour. Fairly small - 26mm long and 8mm wide. 11th century.
