Full Description
29 June 1990. NAU aerial photography.
Cropmarks of trackway.
D. Edwards (NAU).
Southeast end clear and straight - perhaps follows old field boundary - but then diverges to north on sinuous course.
E. Rose (NLA), 5 September 1996.
October 2002. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmark of linear feature running from TG 0541 4174 to TG 0501 4226, visible on NLA oblique aerial photographs from 1990 (S1). It is visible in four sections, covering a total distance of 680m long; the longest being approximately 270m long and 6m wide. The exact date of this feature is unknown although it may be medieval to post-medieval in date, this is backed up by the available map evidence. The trackway/road can be seen to continue the line of the existing road in the north-westerly direction. A road or trackway is depicted on the 1797 Faden map (S2) where appears to follow this same path up towards Cley. This road appears to have gone out of use by the time the Byrant map was published in 1826 (S3).
S. Massey (NMP), 23 December 2002.
