Summary

Part of the parish boundary between Wicklewood and Wymondham is visible as the cropmarks of a double-ditched boundary on aerial photographs. Formerly the boundary also acted as the southern boundary of Crownthorpe Carr. Additional cropmarks and earthworks in the surrounding area appear to be drainage features, of both man-made and natural origin.

Map

3 July 1990. NAU aerial photography (S1).
Cropmarks of double-ditched parish boundary.
D. Edwards (NLA).

This also formed the boundary of Crownthorpe Carr which was once more extensive (S2). There is also a linear mark (infilled ditch?) and a former meander of the stream.
E. Rose (NLA), 5 September 1996.

March 2012. Norfolk NMP.
The section of parish and woodland boundary described above is visible as a double-ditched boundary on aerial photographs (S1), centred at TG 0956 0336. Although the line of the parish boundary is of obvious interest in terms of landscape history, this is adequately depicted by historic maps, including the Ordnance Survey 1st edition 6 inch (S3). The physical boundary is itself of little interest, and consequently has not been mapped by the NMP. Similarly, the natural and man-made drainage features described above, together with others in the surrounding area, have also not been mapped. They are clearly visible on a number of aerial photographs, including (S4) and (S5).
S. Tremlett (NMP), 8 March 2012.
