Summary

A 16th century timber framed house with later alterations. The building was stripped of its 20th century brick skin in 1999 revealing the timber frame and and an original mullioned window. The house was originally built on a cross-passage plan which was later altered to a lobby-entrance plan, probably in the 17th century. The nearby brick barn dates to about 1830.

Full Description

Timber framed three cell two storey cottage on lobby entrance plan.
Roof raised in 19th century; building clad in 20th century.
Barn of brick, probably about 1830.

Stripping of building revealed that the original plan was cross-passage. This and polygonal mullions, indicate a 16th century date. The first floor had a range of 'upper crucks', which may be original or for a 17th century raising of the roof.
