Summary

In 1996 it was noted that a pair of underground brick vaulted chambers of mid-late 19th century date existed under the gardens of Nos 7-8 and under the adjacent roadway. Other chambers are also said to exist in this area, and it is possible that they were connected with the adjacent maltings.

This site is noted in White's Directory (S2) in 1883. White states that the Swaffham waterworks opened in 1867, using a deep well combined with reservoirs and a water tower to solve the low water-table problem.
