Summary

In 1996 it was noted that some reused stonework was present in the rear wall of nos 12/14 London Street. The shop is composed of flint at the ground floor, and pierced by a door and cellar window outlined in 19th century brickwork. Set in the flint walling are several limestone blocks, one apparently a fragment of moulded arch or column, and some of the stonework reddened as if burnt. It is thought that the limestone has been reused more than once.

Map

Reused stonework.
Rear wall of shop composed of flint ground floor, pierced by door and cellar window outlined in 19th century brickwork; upper floor rendered over. Set in the flint walling are several limestone blocks, one apparently a fragment of moulded arch or column. Some stonework reddened as if burnt. Interior of shop featureless - adjacent listed building, No 18, described on listing (S1) as 'part of a good group of 19th century buildings'. The late date therefore suggests the limestone has been reused more than once.
