Full Description

Red brick and flint with gault brick façade.
2 storeys.
Interior ground floor has bridging beams with ogee and nicked stops.
Heavy joists laid flat support wide boards.
First floor fireplace with brick basket arch; in wall to left a panel of decoration with foliage birds and sunbursts in various colours.
Attic has similar fireplace now blocked.
4 bay roof with 2 tiers butt purlins and upper collars, some lower collars removed.
Building only 2 rooms long.
See (S1).
E. Rose (NLA) 22 November 1996.
August 2004.
The building is not in fact two rooms long; for some reason (S1) has only described part of it.
It is a four cell house, which may well have been timber framed (one jowled post visible); the ceiling beams are indeed late 17th century and there is an additional kitchen cell.
19th century brick cladding; but the flintwork is confined to outshuts which also have reused medieval stonework.
See (S2) in file.
E. Rose (NLA), 31 August 2004.
February 2006. Building Survey.
Building recording and photographic survey undertaken on Lower House.
See report (S3) and (S4). This survey is also noted in (S5).
The associated archive has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2016.139).
J. Allen (NLA), 29 June 2006. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 8 April 2015. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 21 June 2019.
