Summary

Metal-detecting between 1996 and 2016 recovered Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins, including a medieval Portuguese coin and a scattered hoard of 15th century coins; medieval jettons; a post-medieval token and Bronze Age, Roman to Middle Saxon and medieval to modern metal objects. The metal finds include a Bronze Age ferrule; a Late Bronze Age tanged chisel; a Roman brooch; a Roman or Early Saxon miniature spearhead; Early Saxon brooches; an Early/Middle Saxon brooch; a Middle Saxon brooch and pin; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval lead ampulla, spur buckle, cancelled seal matrix, horse harness pendant, finger ring fragment, rotary key and an unusual loop strap; a medieval/post-medieval scale-tang knife handle terminal; a post-medieval ferrule and coin weight and a modern military badge and button.

February-March 1996. Metal-detecting. [1] and [2].
Large field made up on several former fields.
1) medieval 14th century strap end front plate with cut-out elaborate lobed terminal. Decorated with rocker-arm ornament. Pierced hole at open end, and part of spacer plate on reverse.
2) medieval finial or shoulder of finger ring in form of animal head.
3) Miniature bronze spear-head ?votive, ?Early Saxon, ?Roman.
4) Beautiful Romanesque buckle in form of a lion sculpted in the round, with pin bar between feet. Tail ends in leaf above rump. Head turning towards back and upwards, with fine lentoid eyes and mane. Surface covered with punched dots. Mane and leaf with rocker-arm. Similar to one from Saxlingham Nethergate.

1996. Metal-detecting. [3].
1) Roman disc brooch. Conical front, six rounded peripheral lugs. Hollow rear. Originally decorated with pale blue enamel. 2nd century AD.
2) Early Saxon foot of small-long brooch, transverse moulding and wedge-shaped terminal with double-triangle stamps as border. Catchplate on reverse.
3) ?Middle Saxon ansate brooch bow (?) with ring and dot and engraved diagonal cross.
4) Five medieval coins.
5) Two post-medieval coins, one post-medieval token.
