Full Description
January/February 1997. Illegal metal-detecting over field.
Area of dense metal-detecting and evidence of around fourteen large holes backfilled.
February 1997. Visit. Area of disturbance plotted and metal-detected by [1].
Context 1. Cruciform brooch knob.
Context 2. Iron shield ring.
Context 3. Spearhead fragment.
Context 4. 3 spearhead fragments (in largest area of disturbance).
Context 5. Early Saxon sherd.
Context 6. Finds made by [1] and not plotted (mostly rubbish but including Roman and Early Saxon sherds plus two spearhead fragments, one knife fragment and one Roman coin.
One ferrule found by A. Rogerson (NLA), having been thrown away into a hedge by illegal metal-detecting operations.

Area around this site has been planted with trees as part of the Trafalgar Wood Project, but with the area of NHER 32340 left unplanted so as to form a small glade in due course. Area due to be weeded autumn 2006.

Roman and medieval pottery sherds recovered. An Early Saxon wrist clasp, a medieval thimble and a possible post- medieval lead weight were also found, along with a medieval coin.
