Map

Pre March 1919. Stray Find.
Babingley is listed in (S1) as one of the locations that had produced one or more "Palaeolithic" drift implements between 1919 and the publication of an earlier gazetteer in 1907 (S2). Although no details are given, the material recovered is listed as being in the possession of Ruskin School, Heacham. Around this time the headmaster of this school was a Mr B. Lowerison - an enthusiastic amateur archaeologist, who is known to have made a number of discoveries in this area (S3). According to a note on (S4) this location is also marked as having produced Palaeolithic material one of W. G. Clarkes map manuscripts (now apparently destroyed).

Babingley is a small former village at the southern edge of what is now Sandringham parish, close to the Babingley River.

This reported discovery is listed in (S5) and noted on (S6). It is also noted in (S7), (S8) and (S9), although in all cases no additional information is given.
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 9 December 2013.
