Summary

A World War Two, Type 22 pillbox, survives as an extant structure, and has been visited and photographed on the ground (most recently in July 2014). It is situated on the quayside, overlooking the confluence of the Rivers Yare and Bure, and Breydon Water. It is one of several such structures to have been sited along the river's edge as an anti-invasion measure (e.g. NHER 27361 to the south). The location and form of the pillbox have also been mapped from wartime aerial photographs.

NMP mapping has led to the alteration of the central grid reference of the site from TG 5196 0789 to TG 5196 0786.
The type 22 pillbox described above is visible as an extant structure on aerial photographs (S3) and (S4), the earliest of which date to March 1944. A probable spigot mortar emplacement (NHER 27357) 90m to the north is likely to have been a contemporary feature.
