Full Description
Set back behind houses of village street, as it has been for at least 150 years. Originally a barn; brick, very irregular English bond, only a few diagonal skintlings (horizontal skintlings show later repairs) probably locally made brick. Serif-I slits mostly blocked but to be reopened. Central cart doors, with later catslide blocking north door. South door has massive step of greenstone over 3m long. Stud mortises in wallplate above this door (so reused?). Thatched
roof on tiebeams on solid arched brackets, these also support plate across doors. Late 19th century bargeboards. Plaque on interior west gable 1701 IWM, the 'I's like the slits. Converted to Methodist chapel 1803 - plaque over west door. Y-tracery window shown on old photograph in blocking of five barn doors now in internal wall. Other pointed windows all remade 1984. Nothing else of chapel use remains. Converted to house 1984 (not 1970s as stated on 1985(!) listing). West end remains open to ceiling of upper level but roof concealed.
Plans in file.
