Map

The present building gives the impression of a large 18th century building with a smaller addition. However the latter had date plaque in east wall of 1647 and three slit windows, blocked below (now covered over). [1] suggests this may have been one house of 1647, and only partly rebuilt as an inn after change of ownership. Possibly one of the houses rebuilt by the Burgesses after being destroyed in a sally during the Seige of Lynn. Locally said to stand on the site of a mill.

To the west of the main building was a two-storey structure containing a large room used by travelling players in the early 19th century. This was partially demolished in 1937 and converted to a single storey.
