February 2005. Excavation.
The site is a trapezoidal moat from the 13th century surrounding a medieval rectory and a second building, possibly a rebuild, build on a raised platform and which was abandoned between 1677 and 1706. It is believed to have become part of the new rectory grounds. The articlegives the history and documentary evidence of the site before explaining the excavation results. Also included are the results of the environmental sampling, which provides an idea of how the environment changed. There is additional evidence of Roman activity in the discovery of a single ditch pre-dating peat formation on the edge of the higher ground.
