Map

1946.
RAF air photograph shows a series of irregular depressions and one more rectangular depression on rough grassland on either side of sea bank.

1998.
Visit confirmed existence of natural sand/gravel 'island' which has been used for extraction purposes. The rectangular depression about 10m by 25m with minor additions on each side exists as a rather odd feature, but RAF air photograph shows recent disturbance and thus probably of similar function. One pit still being infilled.
Part of area now conifer plantation with rough grassland.
B. Cushion (NLA), April 1998.
