March 2010. Norfolk NMP.
Consultation of aerial photographs for this area, such as (S2), as part of the NMP project did not confidently identify traces of the earthworks previously recorded at this site on the ground. However a number of pits were visible within the southern area of the site, but these were not mapped as they were not felt to be sufficiently important to map in isolation. They showed no sign of being recent in the 1940s and are therefore more likely to relate to post medieval extraction rather than military training. A number of tracks relating to recent vehicle movement and plantations paths were visible. It is possible the other earthworks recorded were obscured by low level vegetation on the aerial photographs.
S. Horlock (NMP), 12 March 2010.
