An English Heritage Scheduling report (S1) for the field to the west (NHER 11830) refers to an early 18th century map and this field as Mill Dam Close. A 19th century incumbent refers to a broken millstone in the river near Well Hall and another on the farm.

The name of the field, as given in (S1), suggests this may have been the site of a post medieval mill although it cannot be located with any certainty. The broken millstone found in the river near Well Hall may have been found in this field, but it may not have!
