Full Description
Massive conglomerate southwest nave quoins suggest Late Saxon or Saxo-Norman origin.
Later Norman work includes 12th century piscina and reused fragments; (carved head from NHER 11978 might possibly from here). Possible Norman core to tower.
West end of chancel, formerly flanked by chapels, early 14th century.
Nave and aisles rebuilt, tower reclad, chancel altered, and probably brick porch added between 1388 and 1428, largely under supervision of William Rose whose tomb remains.
Restoration in 1870s by Scott.
Some good memorials including coffin slabs.
Dated font.
Portion of rood screen.
See (S1) and (S2).
E. Rose (NLA) 26 May 1995.
July 2004.
However the story of William Rose has been shown to be fictional, see (S1).
Drain trenches observed.
See note in file.
E. Rose (NLA), 2 August 2004.
